NIO Vision Eye Marathon 2015
26TH July 2015 NIO organized a marathon with run buddies group for awareness about preventable blindness,it was a very well attended marathon with over 1300 runners. As with all marathons, this marathon too saw the best of human grit and determination, a total control of the mind over the body. This was truly embodied by the 25 blind girls who ran with greatest pleasure and carefree abandon. They had normal sighted ” buddies” helping them navigate the route. The joy on their faces made everyone’s day. We all saw open eyes that if mind is strong there are no limits to what we can achieve. Some even ran blindfolded and expressed their feelings on the stage; and the gist was that its tough and we should not take what God almighty has given for granted.
The atmosphere was charged and the energetic Zumba dancers kept everyone on their toes post run! No wonder the compere announced that everyone is a great runner and even a great dancer. The youngest participant was 10 months old( kudos to his parents) and the eldest were 69 years of age. Mr Avjit Singh Chawla , a bilateral blind man ran the half marathon with excellent timing and said he has to run 101 marathons in his life and a poetic ode in his speech made eyes watery.
This marathon is going to happen each year and I invite all my friends to join us each time. Nothing is more therapeutic than running!
