Dr. Aditya Kelkar is a leading vitreoretinal surgeon and Medical Director of the National Institute of Ophthalmology, Pune, a JCI-accredited tertiary eye care and academic center. He specializes in vitreoretinal surgery, complex retinal disorders, macular surgery, and advanced cataract surgery.
He completed his MS and DNB with gold medals, followed by vitreoretinal fellowships in India and Belgium, and international training at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. He holds FRCS (Glasgow), FRCOphth (London), FACS, and FASRS. He also serves as an Examiner for the FRCS (Glasgow), recognizing his international academic standing.
Dr. Kelkar has published over 60 peer-reviewed papers and is an invited speaker and surgical faculty at major international conferences. He has received numerous prestigious honors, including the RHETT BUCKLER Award (ASRS) for best surgical video for six consecutive years (2020–2025).
Dr. Kelkar was national champion in traditional Indian sport called Mallakhamb and in addition, he is a marathoner and has the completed four full marathons including one world major Marathon-Chicago in 2019. He is actively involved in teaching, mentorship, and clinical research, and has trained numerous national and international fellows and residents.
